Providing thermal comfort, ventilation, accessible personal care, and specialist medical & therapy facilities are an important part of the design process and make a real difference to a child’s health and well-being. Children also need to feel safe and secure. Clear zoning to reflect different functions is crucial to create reassurance. Appropriate security to prevent unauthorised access and exit is important too and was a key issue on a project completed for Caldecott Foundation School, a school for children with challenging behavioural patterns.
