The Stade Pumping Station forms part of a major
scheme for dispersal of storm water from the Dover
and Folkestone area by Southern Water. The exterior
is only a small section of a structure that extends
deep under the beach. Its dramatic terne coated
stainless steel roof sweeps up the cliff face,
housing ventilation shafts for tunnels below.
Stone cladding on external walls marries the building
to the promenade retaining walls and gives a rugged
appearance in keeping with the land and seascape.
