Welcome Josh – Interview

We are really pleased to welcome Josh to the L E P team as a new Architectural Technologist. We sat down to ask him a few questions to get to know him better…
What has your career looked like before L E P?
“Originally, I am from Blackburn, and I trained as an Architectural Technologist in Bolton, which is where I got my first job. Early on, one of the most interesting things I worked on was 4 fire stations for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue! I moved to Canterbury in 2016, and I have worked in the Kent area since then, working across a wide range of sectors, including residential projects, refurbishments, healthcare, and even clip and climb centres!”
What does life look like for you outside of work?
“Apart from playing pool with friends and a bit of gardening, I love teaching myself new skills, especially playing around making CGIs in my spare time. I have also been helping my wife set up her craft business making handmade items from Nigerian Ankara fabric. We are expecting a child soon, so we’re getting ready for a new chapter in our lives.”
Which of the L E P values (Creative, Collaborative, Knowledgeable, Authentic, and Caring) is most important to you?
“Caring is definitely the most important value for me. I don’t want to sound like a cliché, but I really believe in the saying that ‘a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle’. Even if it is just a smile or an ear to listen to someone, it takes nothing to be kind and make people feel cared for.”
What are you excited to work on at L E P?
“I am excited to step to the next level professionally, and I am looking forward to taking on more responsibility. I don’t like to be pigeonholed, and I am trying to get a really wide range of skills. It is also exciting to be part of a bigger team, and I am already working on large-scale projects, which is a really good experience. You’re only as good as the last thing you did, so as long as I keep improving I’ll be happy.”
Do you have a favourite building?
“My favourite projects to work on are the little ones. Its always nice to make the most impact on someone’s day to day life, you can really change the world someone lives in. Although Taipei 101 is pretty cool from an engineering perspective!”
And finally, and most importantly, what is your favourite biscuit?
“I was expecting this question! I’ve got two at the moment: M&S extra cream custard creams and Aldi Viennese biscuits with the chocolate in the middle. Although anything that says ‘double’ or ‘extra’ on the packet is good for me!”
