Herne Bay Court Retirement Village

  • Studios: Planning / Architecture / CDM
  • Client: Bethal Retirement Villages
  • Location: Herne Bay, Kent
  • Completed: Ongoing
  • Project value: Estimated £25-30m

The first of an intended larger number of retirement villages planned by our clients, this project has been developed to meet a specialised housing need in the area, namely that of a high quality development for older people. It combines high quality housing design with a unique range of health and leisure facilities to create a retirement village within a mature setting.

The scheme combines the provision of lifetime homes with a range of health and leisure facilities, including 40 closed care suites, dementia unit, a spa and village clubhouse; facilities intended to provide a hotel-like level of service together with specialist care services.

The development will incorporate the existing prominent building on site, ‘Herne Bay Court’, together with a large element of complementary new build apartment blocks.

Sustainable features will be included, with green roofs and technologies to collect rainwater incorporated into the scheme. It is proposed that heating and power will be delivered from a combined heat and power plant.

When completed, the scheme will provide a range of one and two bedroom apartments in a mix of converted and new build accommodation, set within 3.8ha of landscaped parkland.
