Welcome Phil – Interview

We are really pleased to welcome Phil to the L E  P Planning team. We sat down to ask him a few questions to get to know him better…

What has your career looked like before L E  P?

“I grew up in Medway and studied history at the University of Birmingham. I then went on to do a masters in town planning also at Birmingham. Since then I have worked on a variety of projects, including at the University of Warwick, green belt and grey belt sites, and city centre sites. A couple of years ago I moved back to Medway.”

What does life look like for you outside of work?

“History is still a big passion of mine, so I enjoy reading history books. I especially like cultural history, the 18th century is particularly interesting with the revolutions and social change, you can really see the start of our modern society starting to emerge. I also like doing art, linocutting is really good fun. Apart from that: walking, watching Eurovision (I liked Germany, Finland and Denmark this year), and going to the Cooper’s Arms in Rochester!”

Which of the L E  P values (Creative, Collaborative, Knowledgeable, Authentic, and Caring) is most important to you?

“I think collaborative is most important to me. As planners you have to be the conduit between all the different disciplines, as well as the local authority. You have to be collaborative to deliver results, and get the best outcomes for everyone.”

What are you excited to work on at L E  P?

“I think it is really important to deliver social value across all sectors, especially education, healthcare or residential. I am keen not to pigeonhole myself, so I am excited to work on whatever comes my way!”

Do you have a favourite building?

“Probably the British Museum. Obviously I love the history, but architecturally I like the contrast between new and old, and they way they have created a new space out of something underused.”

And finally, what is your favourite biscuit?

“I was worried about this question because I am more of a savoury guy. If I had to choose I would probably go for an Oreo, but I would prefer a packet of crisps!”
