Go-Ahead given for Folkestone College Redevelopment

Folkestone College

LEP is delighted to confirm that planning permission has been secured for an exciting redevelopment scheme at Folkestone College.

The hybrid application, approved by Folkestone & Hythe District Council, includes full permission for a large-scale campus redevelopment, including a new campus frontage on Shorncliffe Road incorporating a new teaching block and campus reception building, together with outline permission for development to the north of the campus site.

The new college buildings will help to consolidate the College’s buildings and provide a stronger, more unified frontage on Shorncliffe Road, which is currently dominated by a car parking area. The scheme aims to create exciting state-of-the-art facilities for the college, enhancing the learning experience of students, and increasing the college’s presence within the town.

The redevelopment will involve the refurbishment of existing important buildings on site, including a Victorian chapel and Ames House, which is currently undergoing strip out works to create a new training restaurant, commercial kitchen and office accommodation. EKC Folkestone prides itself on its vocational training options, providing students with practical, hands-on experience and learning. The new facilities will enhance the college’s existing wonderful provisions, providing in excess of 2,000sqm of redevelopment.

With permission now secured, it is hoped that the college redevelopment works will commences on site shortly, with completion currently scheduled for September 2022.
