Dulwich Prep & Senior School
- Studios: Architecture
- Client: Dulwich Prep & Senior School
- Location: Dulwich, London
- Completed: Dec 2025
LEP is proud to celebrate the completion of a multi-phase expansion project at Dulwich Prep & Senior in London, marking a significant step forward in the school’s strategic growth to introduce senior school provision by September 2025.
Project Overview:
Working collaboratively with at Dulwich Prep & Senior across all three phases, our team led the design and delivery from concept through to completion (RIBA Stages 1-6), acting as architect, lead consultant, contract administrator, Building Regulations Principal Designer, and planning consultant, providing a through-service, from concept to completion, for the client.
Work phases:
Works were undertaken in phases to ensure the school could remain safely operational, with works coordinated into the following phases:
- Phase 01 set the foundation by transforming Block 06 – introducing a welcoming new main entrance and reception area, and creating space for additional sanitary provision by reconfiguring previously-oversized office spaces.
- Phase 02 built upon this work, adding a new extension to the Pre-Prep building and integrating additional teaching space, essential WCs and office space throughout Block 06. This phase was also designed to align with the school’s future vision to introduce senior school provision for Years 9-11, meeting anticipated educational demands.
- Phase 03 focused on the full internal reconfiguration of the existing Betws Building to create a Senior School to support the introduction of Years 9-11. Specialist teaching environments, enhanced staff facilities, improved circulation, and refined interiors were developed through a collaborative design process with the school’s leadership team. Every detail – from finishes to furniture – was carefully considered to ensure alignment with the needs of older year groups. A flexible break-out central space designed to support self-study, was created, helping students prepare for sixth form and university.
This approach prioritised the re-use and adaptation of the existing building fabric, thereby avoiding demolition. By working with the structure already in place, the project delivers a sustainable, future-ready learning environment while extending the life of the Betws Building.
The overall scheme has been delivered using traditional procurement routes and a carefully phased approach, allowing the school to evolve without disruption. We’re delighted to have played a central role in helping Dulwich Prep & Senior realise its long-term vision, ensuring its spaces are as ambitious and inspiring as its pupils.
